801 Tower
Los Angeles, California, USA

This 650,000 s.f., 30 story office building in downtown Los Angeles includes ground floor retail space and three levels of underground parking. To establish its own identity in an area of 50-story towers, the top of the building was given a distinctive form. Its stepped back corners emphasize the height of the building and create multiple corner offices on each floor. The entrance to the tower was set diagonally at the corner to provide a view of the plaza’s park from this dramatic, three-story high lobby. This project included major collaboration between the architects and artist Andrew Leister. The project was designed for Takenaka and Mitsubishi Trust & Banking Corp and undertaken by the Principals of Architecture International when they were Principals of The Architects Collaborative.
